We had planned on doing the short hike at Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park but it was pouring rain when we got there. This is one of the most easily accessible stands of giant Douglas Fir on the island with some over 800 years old. This area of the park is split onto two sides of the road. The South side is the area we visited with a very well trodden path, taking about 20 minutes in total to walk around and leading to the largest Fir in the area. The North side we didn’t get to unfortunately, it was just too cold and the sleet was making it extremely uncomfortable to look up at the tall trees. It has an easy trail as well on this side called Old Growth Trail and access to Cameron Lake.
The trail has a lot of information posted along it to keep you engaged and explain what it is you are seeing. The delicate ecosystems on the island are incredible to learn about and make the beauty you see, so much more important and mystical.
Despite our short visit to MacMillan, it is a must see for anyone visiting the island!

Warning: The highway running through this park can get very busy and in the summer months parking along the highway is ridiculous. Be careful when parking and when attempting to cross the highway!
